ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Gauree, Fifth Mehla:

ਮੋਹਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਊਚੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਲ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥

mohan tere uooche ma(n)dhar mahal apaaraa ||

O Mohan, your temple is so lofty, and your mansion is unsurpassed.

ਮੋਹਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਦੁਆਰ ਜੀਉ ਸੰਤ ਧਰਮ ਸਾਲਾ ॥

mohan tere sohan dhuaar jeeau sa(n)t dharam saalaa ||

O Mohan, your gates are so beautiful. They are the worship-houses of the Saints.

ਧਰਮ ਸਾਲ ਅਪਾਰ ਦੈਆਰ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਵਹੇ ॥

dharam saal apaar dhaiaar Thaakur sadhaa keeratan gaavahe ||

In these incomparable worship-houses, they continually sing Kirtan, the Praises of their Lord and Master.

ਜਹ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਤ ਇਕਤ੍ਰ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਤਹਾ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੇ ॥

jeh saadh sa(n)t ikatr hoveh tahaa tujheh dhiaavahe ||

Where the Saints and the Holy gather together, there they meditate on you.

ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਮਇਆ ਦਇਆਲ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੋਹੁ ਦੀਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਰਾ ॥

kar dhiaa miaa dhiaal suaamee hoh dheen kirapaaraa ||

Be Kind and Compassionate, O Merciful Lord; be Merciful to the meek.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਸ ਪਿਆਸੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਾਰਾ ॥੧॥

binava(n)t naanak dharas piaase mil dharasan sukh saaraa ||1||

Prays Nanak, I thirst for the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan; receiving Your Darshan, I am totally at peace. ||1||

ਮੋਹਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਬਚਨ ਅਨੂਪ ਚਾਲ ਨਿਰਾਲੀ ॥

mohan tere bachan anoop chaal niraalee ||

O Mohan, your speech is incomparable; wondrous are your ways.

ਮੋਹਨ ਤੂੰ ਮਾਨਹਿ ਏਕੁ ਜੀ ਅਵਰ ਸਭ ਰਾਲੀ ॥

mohan too(n) maaneh ek jee avar sabh raalee ||

O Mohan, you believe in the One. Everything else is dust to you.

ਮਾਨਹਿ ਤ ਏਕੁ ਅਲੇਖੁ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਜਿਨਹਿ ਸਭ ਕਲ ਧਾਰੀਆ ॥

maaneh ta ek alekh Thaakur jineh sabh kal dhaareeaa ||

You adore the One Lord, the Unknowable Lord and Master; His Power gives Support to all.

ਤੁਧੁ ਬਚਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਕੀਆ ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਨਵਾਰੀਆ ॥

tudh bachan gur kai vas keeaa aadh purakh banavaareeaa ||

Through the Guru's Word, you have captured the heart of the Primal Being, the Lord of the World.

ਤੂੰ ਆਪਿ ਚਲਿਆ ਆਪਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਆਪਿ ਸਭ ਕਲ ਧਾਰੀਆ ॥

too(n) aap chaliaa aap rahiaa aap sabh kal dhaareeaa ||

You Yourself move, and You Yourself stand still; You Yourself support the whole creation.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੈਜ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਸਭ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਰਨਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀਆ ॥੨॥

binava(n)t naanak paij raakhahu sabh sevak saran tumaareeaa ||2||

Prays Nanak, please preserve my honor; all Your servants seek the Protection of Your Sanctuary. ||2||

ਮੋਹਨ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਧਿਆਵੈ ਦਰਸ ਧਿਆਨਾ ॥

mohan tudh satasa(n)gat dhiaavai dharas dhiaanaa ||

O Mohan, the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, meditates on you; they meditate on the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan.

ਮੋਹਨ ਜਮੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਤੁਧੁ ਜਪਹਿ ਨਿਦਾਨਾ ॥

mohan jam neR na aavai tudh japeh nidhaanaa ||

O Mohan, the Messenger of Death does not even approach those who meditate on You, at the last moment.

ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਲਗੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਜੋ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੇ ॥

jamakaal tin kau lagai naahee jo ik man dhiaavahe ||

The Messenger of Death cannot touch those who meditate on You single-mindedly.

ਮਨਿ ਬਚਨਿ ਕਰਮਿ ਜਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਅਰਾਧਹਿ ਸੇ ਸਭੇ ਫਲ ਪਾਵਹੇ ॥

man bachan karam j tudh araadheh se sabhe fal paavahe ||

Those who worship and adore You in thought, word and deed, obtain all fruits and rewards.

ਮਲ ਮੂਤ ਮੂੜ ਜਿ ਮੁਗਧ ਹੋਤੇ ਸਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਰਸੁ ਸੁਗਿਆਨਾ ॥

mal moot mooR j mugadh hote s dhekh dharas sugiaanaa ||

Those who are foolish and stupid, filthy with urine and manure, become all-knowing upon gaining the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਜੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਭਗਵਾਨਾ ॥੩॥

binava(n)t naanak raaj nihachal pooran purakh bhagavaanaa ||3||

Prays Nanak, Your Kingdom is Eternal, O Perfect Primal Lord God. ||3||

ਮੋਹਨ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਫਲੁ ਫਲਿਆ ਸਣੁ ਪਰਵਾਰੇ ॥

mohan too(n) sufal faliaa san paravaare ||

O Mohan, you have blossomed forth with the flower of your family.

ਮੋਹਨ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਮੀਤ ਭਾਈ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸਭਿ ਤਾਰੇ ॥

mohan putr meet bhaiee kuTa(n)b sabh taare ||

O Mohan, your children, friends, siblings and relatives have all been saved.

ਤਾਰਿਆ ਜਹਾਨੁ ਲਹਿਆ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

taariaa jahaan lahiaa abhimaan jinee dharasan paiaa ||

You save those who give up their egotistical pride, upon gaining the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan.

ਜਿਨੀ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਧੰਨੁ ਕਹਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਜਮੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥

jinee tudhano dha(n)n kahiaa tin jam neR na aaiaa ||

The Messenger of Death does not even approach those who call you 'blessed'.

ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਥੇ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥

bea(n)t gun tere kathe na jaahee satigur purakh muraare ||

Your Virtues are unlimited - they cannot be described, O True Guru, Primal Being, Destroyer of demons.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਟੇਕ ਰਾਖੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਗਿ ਤਰਿਆ ਸੰਸਾਰੇ ॥੪॥੨॥

binava(n)t naanak Tek raakhee jit lag tariaa sa(n)saare ||4||2||

Prays Nanak, Yours is that Anchor, holding onto which the whole world is saved. ||4||2||

Shalok:

ਪਤਿਤ ਅਸੰਖ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਕਰਿ ਪੁਨਹ ਪੁਨਹ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ॥

patit asa(n)kh puneet kar puneh puneh balihaar ||

Countless sinners have been purified; I am a sacrifice, over and over again, to You.

ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਪਾਵਕੋ ਤਿਨ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਦਾਹਨਹਾਰ ॥੧॥

naanak raam naam jap paavako tin kilabikh dhaahanahaar ||1||

O Nanak, meditation on the Lord's Name is the fire which burns away sinful mistakes like straw. ||1||

ਜਪਿ ਮਨਾ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਮ ਨਰਾਇਣੁ ਗੋਵਿੰਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਧੋ ॥

jap manaa too(n) raam narain govi(n)dhaa har maadho ||

Meditate, O my mind, on the Lord God, the Lord of the Universe, the Lord, the Master of Wealth.

ਧਿਆਇ ਮਨਾ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ਮੁਕੰਦੇ ਕਟੀਐ ਕਾਲ ਦੁਖ ਫਾਧੋ ॥

dhiaai manaa muraar muka(n)dhe kaTeeaai kaal dhukh faadho ||

Meditate, O my mind, on the Lord, the Destroyer of ego, the Giver of salvation, who cuts away the noose of agonizing death.

ਦੁਖਹਰਣ ਦੀਨ ਸਰਣ ਸ੍ਰੀਧਰ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਅਰਾਧੀਐ ॥

dhukhaharan dheen saran sreedhar charan kamal araadheeaai ||

Meditate lovingly on the Lotus Feet of the Lord, the Destroyer of distress, the Protector of the poor, the Lord of excellence.

ਜਮ ਪੰਥੁ ਬਿਖੜਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਨਿਮਖ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸਾਧੀਐ ॥

jam pa(n)th bikhaRaa agan saagar nimakh simarat saadheeaai ||

The treacherous path of death and the terrifying ocean of fire are crossed over by meditating in remembrance on the Lord, even for an instant.

ਕਲਿਮਲਹ ਦਹਤਾ ਸੁਧੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਅਰਾਧੋ ॥

kalimaleh dhahataa sudh karataa dhinas rain araadho ||

Meditate day and night on the Lord, the Destroyer of desire, the Purifier of pollution.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਹੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਮਾਧੋ ॥੧॥

binava(n)t naanak karahu kirapaa gopaal gobi(n)dh maadho ||1||

Prays Nanak, please be Merciful to me, O Cherisher of the world, Lord of the Universe, Lord of wealth. ||1||

ਸਿਮਰਿ ਮਨਾ ਦਾਮੋਦਰੁ ਦੁਖਹਰੁ ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥

simar manaa dhaamodhar dhukhahar bhai bha(n)jan har raiaa ||

O my mind, remember the Lord in meditation; He is the Destroyer of pain, the Eradicator of fear, the Sovereign Lord King.

ਸ੍ਰੀਰੰਗੋ ਦਇਆਲ ਮਨੋਹਰੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਬਿਰਦਾਇਆ ॥

sreera(n)go dhiaal manohar bhagat vachhal biradhaiaa ||

He is the Greatest Lover, the Merciful Master, the Enticer of the mind, the Support of His devotees - this is His very nature.
