ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

sabadh man ra(n)giaa liv lai ||

The mind is attuned to the Word of the Shabad; it is lovingly attuned to the Lord.

ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੧॥

nij ghar vasiaa prabh kee rajai ||1||

It abides within its own home, in harmony with the Lord's Will. ||1||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਜਾਇ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥

satigur seviaai jai abhimaan ||

Serving the True Guru, egotistical pride departs,

ਗੋਵਿਦੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

govidh paieeaai gunee nidhaan ||1|| rahaau ||

and the Lord of the Universe, the Treasure of Excellence, is obtained. ||1||Pause||

ਮਨੁ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਜਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਉ ਖਾਇ ॥

man bairaagee jaa sabadh bhau khai ||

The mind becomes detached and free of desire, when it experiences the Fear of God, through the Shabad.

ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਸਭ ਤੈ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥

meraa prabh niramalaa sabh tai rahiaa samai ||

My Immaculate God is pervading and contained among all.

ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੨॥

gur kirapaa te milai milai ||2||

By Guru's Grace, one is united in His Union. ||2||

ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੋ ਦਾਸੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

har dhaasan ko dhaas sukh paae ||

The slave of the Lord's slave attains peace.

ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਏ ॥

meraa har prabh in bidh paiaa jaae ||

My Lord God is found in this way.

ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਰਾਮ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ॥੩॥

har kirapaa te raam gun gaae ||3||

By the Grace of the Lord, one comes to sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3||

ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਬਹੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

dhirag bahu jeevan jit har naam na lagai piaar ||

Cursed is that long life, during which love for the Lord's Name is not enshrined.

ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਸੇਜ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਮੋਹ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥

dhirag sej sukhaalee kaaman moh gubaar ||

Cursed is that comfortable bed which lures one into the darkness of attachment to sexual desire.

ਤਿਨ ਸਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਜਿਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥੪॥

tin safal janam jin naam adhaar ||4||

Fruitful is the birth of that person who takes the Support of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||

ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

dhirag dhirag girahu kuTa(n)b jit har preet na hoi ||

Cursed, cursed is that home and family, in which the love of the Lord is not embraced.

ਸੋਈ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਮੀਤੁ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥

soiee hamaaraa meet jo har gun gaavai soi ||

He alone is my friend, who sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੫॥

har naam binaa mai avar na koi ||5||

Without the Lord's Name, there is no other for me. ||5||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥

satigur te ham gat pat paiee ||

From the True Guru, I have obtained salvation and honor.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਦੂਖੁ ਸਗਲ ਮਿਟਾਈ ॥

har naam dhiaaiaa dhookh sagal miTaiee ||

I have meditated on the Name of the Lord, and all my sufferings have been erased.

ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੬॥

sadhaa ana(n)dh har naam liv laiee ||6||

I am in constant bliss, lovingly attuned to the Lord's Name. ||6||

ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਹਮ ਕਉ ਸਰੀਰ ਸੁਧਿ ਭਈ ॥

gur miliaai ham kau sareer sudh bhiee ||

Meeting the Guru, I came to understand my body.

ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਭ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਈ ॥

haumai tirasanaa sabh agan bujhiee ||

The fires of ego and desire have been totally quenched.

ਬਿਨਸੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਖਿਮਾ ਗਹਿ ਲਈ ॥੭॥

binase karodh khimaa geh liee ||7||

Anger has been dispelled, and I have grasped hold of tolerance. ||7||

ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਵੈ ॥

har aape kirapaa kare naam dhevai ||

The Lord Himself showers His Mercy, and bestows the Naam.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਲੇਵੈ ॥

gurmukh ratan ko viralaa levai ||

How rare is that Gurmukh, who receives the jewel of the Naam.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵੈ ॥੮॥੮॥

naanak gun gaavai har alakh abhevai ||8||8||

O Nanak, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, the Unknowable, the Incomprehensible. ||8||8||

ਰਾਗੁ ਗਉੜੀ ਬੈਰਾਗਣਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

raag gauRee bairaagan mahalaa teejaa ||

Raag Gauree Bairaagan, Third Mehla:

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਮੁਹ ਫੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਵੇਮੁਖ ਬੁਰੇ ਦਿਸੰਨਿ ॥

satigur te jo muh fere te vemukh bure dhisa(n)n ||

Those who turn their faces away from the True Guru, are seen to be unfaithful and evil.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਬਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਨਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਵੇਲਾ ਨਾ ਲਹੰਨਿ ॥੧॥

anadhin badhe maareean fir velaa naa laha(n)n ||1||

They shall be bound and beaten night and day; they shall not have this opportunity again. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥

har har raakhahu kirapaa dhaar ||

O Lord, please shower Your Mercy upon me, and save me!

ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਾਇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

satasa(n)gat melai prabh har hiradhai har gun saar ||1|| rahaau ||

O Lord God, please lead me to meet the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, that I may dwell upon the Glorious Praises of the Lord within my heart. ||1||Pause||

ਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵਦੇ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਾਇ ਚਲੰਨਿ ॥

se bhagat har bhaavadhe jo gurmukh bhai chala(n)n ||

Those devotees are pleasing to the Lord, who as Gurmukh, walk in harmony with the Way of the Lord's Will.

ਆਪੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨਿ ਜੀਵਤ ਮੁਏ ਰਹੰਨਿ ॥੨॥

aap chhodd sevaa karan jeevat mue raha(n)n ||2||

Subduing their selfishness and conceit, and performing selfless service, they remain dead while yet alive. ||2||

ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਪਰਾਣ ਹੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰ ॥

jis dhaa pi(n)dd paraan hai tis kee sir kaar ||

The body and the breath of life belong to the One - perform the greatest service to Him.

ਓਹੁ ਕਿਉ ਮਨਹੁ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਰਖੀਐ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੩॥

oh kiau manahu visaareeaai har rakheeaai hiradhai dhaar ||3||

Why forget Him from your mind? Keep the Lord enshrined in your heart. ||3||

ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮਿ ਮੰਨਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

naam miliaai pat paieeaai naam ma(n)niaai sukh hoi ||

Receiving the Naam, the Name of the Lord, one obtains honor; believing in the Naam, one is at peace.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥

satigur te naam paieeaai karam milai prabh soi ||4||

The Naam is obtained from the True Guru; by His Grace, God is found. ||4||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਮੁਹੁ ਫੇਰੇ ਓਇ ਭ੍ਰਮਦੇ ਨਾ ਟਿਕੰਨਿ ॥

satigur te jo muh fere oi bhramadhe naa Tika(n)n ||

They turn their faces away from the True Guru; they continue to wander aimlessly.

ਧਰਤਿ ਅਸਮਾਨੁ ਨ ਝਲਈ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਪਏ ਪਚੰਨਿ ॥੫॥

dharat asamaan na jhaliee vich visaTaa pe pacha(n)n ||5||

They are not accepted by the earth or the sky; they fall into manure, and rot. ||5||

ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਠਗਉਲੀ ਪਾਇ ॥

eih jag bharam bhulaiaa moh Thagaulee pai ||

This world is deluded by doubt - it has taken the drug of emotional attachment.

ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਭਿਟੈ ਮਾਇ ॥੬॥

jinaa satigur bheTiaa tin neR na bhiTai mai ||6||

Maya does not draw near those who have met with the True Guru. ||6||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸੋ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥

satigur sevan so sohane haumai mail gavai ||

Those who serve the True Guru are very beautiful; they cast off the filth of selfishness and conceit.
