ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

maajh mahalaa panjavaa ||

Maajh, Fifth Mehla:

ਸਫਲ ਸੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥

safal su baanee jit naam vakhaanee ||

Blessed are those words, by which the Naam is chanted.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਜਾਣੀ ॥

gur parasaadh kinai viralai jaanee ||

Rare are those who know this, by Guru's Grace.

ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਵੇਲਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਵਤ ਸੁਨਣਾ ਆਏ ਤੇ ਪਰਵਾਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥

dha(n)nu su velaa jit har gaavat sunanaa aae te paravaanaa jeeau ||1||

Blessed is that time when one sings and hears the Lord's Name. Blessed and approved is the coming of such a one. ||1||

ਸੇ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਾ ॥

se netr paravaan jinee dharasan pekhaa ||

Those eyes which behold the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan are approved and accepted.

ਸੇ ਕਰ ਭਲੇ ਜਿਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਲੇਖਾ ॥

se kar bhale jinee har jas lekhaa ||

Those hands which write the Praises of the Lord are good.

ਸੇ ਚਰਣ ਸੁਹਾਵੇ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਚਲੇ ਹਉ ਬਲਿ ਤਿਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਛਾਣਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥

se charan suhaave jo har maarag chale hau bal tin sa(n)g pachhaanaa jeeau ||2||

Those feet which walk in the Lord's Way are beautiful. I am a sacrifice to that Congregation in which the Lord is recognized. ||2||

ਸੁਣਿ ਸਾਜਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੀਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥

sun saajan mere meet piaare ||

Listen, O my beloved friends and companions:

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਖਿਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥

saadhasa(n)g khin maeh udhaare ||

in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you shall be saved in an instant.

ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਕਾਟਿ ਹੋਆ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮਿਟਿ ਗਏ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥

kilavikh kaaT hoaa man niramal miT ge aavan jaanaa jeeau ||3||

Your sins will be cut out; your mind will be immaculate and pure. Your comings and goings shall cease. ||3||

ਦੁਇ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਇਕੁ ਬਿਨਉ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥

dhui kar joR ik binau kareejai ||

With my palms pressed together, I offer this prayer:

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਡੁਬਦਾ ਪਥਰੁ ਲੀਜੈ ॥

kar kirapaa ddubadhaa pathar leejai ||

please bless me with Your Mercy, and save this sinking stone.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੨੨॥੨੯॥

naanak kau prabh bhe kirapaalaa prabh naanak man bhaanaa jeeau ||4||22||29||

God has become merciful to Nanak; God is pleasing to Nanak's mind. ||4||22||29||

Maajh, Fifth Mehla:

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰੀ ॥

a(n)mirat baanee har har teree ||

The Word of Your Bani, Lord, is Ambrosial Nectar.

ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਮੇਰੀ ॥

sun sun hovai param gat meree ||

Hearing it again and again, I am elevated to the supreme heights.

ਜਲਨਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੋਇ ਮਨੂਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥

jalan bujhee seetal hoi manooaa satigur kaa dharasan paae jeeau ||1||

The burning within me has been extinguished, and my mind has been cooled and soothed, by the Blessed Vision of the True Guru. ||1||

ਸੂਖੁ ਭਇਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੂਰਿ ਪਰਾਨਾ ॥

sookh bhiaa dhukh dhoor paraanaa ||

Happiness is obtained, and sorrow runs far away,

ਸੰਤ ਰਸਨ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਨਾ ॥

sa(n)t rasan har naam vakhaanaa ||

when the Saints chant the Lord's Name.

ਜਲ ਥਲ ਨੀਰਿ ਭਰੇ ਸਰ ਸੁਭਰ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥

jal thal neer bhare sar subhar birathaa koi na jaae jeeau ||2||

The sea, the dry land, and the lakes are filled with the Water of the Lord's Name; no place is left empty. ||2||

ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰੀ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰੇ ॥

dhiaa dhaaree tin sirajanahaare ||

The Creator has showered His Kindness;

ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਗਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰੇ ॥

jeea ja(n)t sagale pratipaare ||

He cherishes and nurtures all beings and creatures.

ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਦਇਆਲਾ ਸਗਲੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥

miharavaan kirapaal dhiaalaa sagale tirapat aghaae jeeau ||3||

He is Merciful, Kind and Compassionate. All are satisfied and fulfilled through Him. ||3||

ਵਣੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਣੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣੁ ਕੀਤੋਨੁ ਹਰਿਆ ॥

van tiran tirabhavan keeton hariaa ||

The woods, the meadows and the three worlds are rendered green.

ਕਰਣਹਾਰਿ ਖਿਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਕਰਿਆ ॥

karanahaar khin bheetar kariaa ||

The Doer of all did this in an instant.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੈ ਅਰਾਧੇ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਪੁਜਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੨੩॥੩੦॥

gurmukh naanak tisai araadhe man kee aas pujaae jeeau ||4||23||30||

As Gurmukh, Nanak meditates on the One who fulfills the desires of the mind. ||4||23||30||

ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Maajh, Fifth Mehla:

ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਤਾ ॥

too(n) meraa pitaa too(n)hai meraa maataa ||

You are my Father, and You are my Mother.

ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਬੰਧਪੁ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਭ੍ਰਾਤਾ ॥

too(n) meraa ba(n)dhap too(n) meraa bhraataa ||

You are my Relative, and You are my Brother.

ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਸਭਨੀ ਥਾਈ ਤਾ ਭਉ ਕੇਹਾ ਕਾੜਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥

too(n) meraa raakhaa sabhanee thaiee taa bhau kehaa kaaRaa jeeau ||1||

You are my Protector everywhere; why should I feel any fear or anxiety? ||1||

ਤੁਮਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਪਛਾਣਾ ॥

tumaree kirapaa te tudh pachhaanaa ||

By Your Grace, I recognize You.

ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਣਾ ॥

too(n) meree oT too(n)hai meraa maanaa ||

You are my Shelter, and You are my Honor.

ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਖੇਲੁ ਅਖਾੜਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥

tujh bin dhoojaa avar na koiee sabh teraa khel akhaaRaa jeeau ||2||

Without You, there is no other; the entire Universe is the Arena of Your Play. ||2||

ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਉਪਾਏ ॥

jeea ja(n)t sabh tudh upaae ||

You have created all beings and creatures.

ਜਿਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਭਾਣਾ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥

jit jit bhaanaa tit tit laae ||

As it pleases You, You assign tasks to one and all.

ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਤਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਅਸਾੜਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥

sabh kichh keetaa teraa hovai naahee kichh asaaRaa jeeau ||3||

All things are Your Doing; we can do nothing ourselves. ||3||

ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਮਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

naam dhiaai mahaa sukh paiaa ||

Meditating on the Naam, I have found great peace.

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲਾਇਆ ॥

har gun gai meraa man seetalaiaa ||

Singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, my mind is cooled and soothed.

ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਵਜੀ ਵਾਧਾਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਤਾ ਬਿਖਾੜਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੨੪॥੩੧॥

gur poorai vajee vaadhaiee naanak jitaa bikhaaRaa jeeau ||4||24||31||

Through the Perfect Guru, congratulations are pouring in-Nanak is victorious on the arduous battlefield of life! ||4||24||31||

Maajh, Fifth Mehla:

ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਨਹਿ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥

jeea praan prabh maneh adhaaraa ||

God is the Breath of Life of my soul, the Support of my mind.

ਭਗਤ ਜੀਵਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥

bhagat jeeveh gun gai apaaraa ||

His devotees live by singing the Glorious Praises of the Infinite Lord.

ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥

gun nidhaan a(n)mrit har naamaa har dhiaai dhiaai sukh paiaa jeeau ||1||

The Ambrosial Name of the Lord is the Treasure of Excellence. Meditating, meditating on the Lord's Name, I have found peace. ||1||

ਮਨਸਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਜੋ ਘਰ ਤੇ ਆਵੈ ॥ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਮਿਟਾਵੈ ॥

manasaa dhaar jo ghar te aavai || saadhasa(n)g janam maran miTaavai ||

One whose heart's desires lead him from his own home to the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, shall be rid of the cycle of birth and death.
